Is your pet having difficulty sitting, lying down or getting back up? Is there pain, lameness or loss of balance when your pet is standing or walking? Have stairs become difficult and is going for walks a longer, slower and more difficult activity? Has your pet just had an orthopedic or neurologic injury diagnosed or undergone surgery? Is your pet overweight and losing the desire and endurance to walk in the park or hike?

At Canine Rehab of New York we want to help! Our certified canine rehabilitation specialists meet with you to discuss the challenges that your pet is facing and conduct a complete orthopedic and neurologic exam. A treatment plan is then devised that has been individualized for your pet. Treatments include modalities such as laser, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and therapeutic ultrasound which function to reduce pain and inflammation, facilitate healing, improve joint health and tissue flexibility. Electrical stimulation is used to treat muscle atrophy (NMES) after surgery or injuries that prevent a patient from using their limbs and TENS is used to treat pain.

Manual therapy includes soft tissue and joint mobilization to improve mobility, decrease pain and optimize function. Therapeutic exercises are important to strengthen areas of weakness and improve mobility and balance. The underwater treadmill is used for gait retraining after an injury or surgery as well as for exercise and conditioning. The buoyancy of the water allows exercise with a decreased impact on the joints.
