Veterinarians

Dr. Bonnie Brown, VMD, CCRP, CCRT (Founder & Veterinarian)

A born and bred New Yorker, Dr. Brown, VMD, CCRP, CCRT, has been a practicing veterinarian for over 25 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine receiving the J.B. Lippincott Prize for the highest general average and the 1956 Class Medal for Achievement in Pathology, among other honors. Like many animal lovers, Bonnie had to defer her wish to have a pet of her own until she was an adult. While working in theater as a lighting designer, Bonnie fell in love with a Golden Retriever named Ginger. Her four-legged companion became such an influential part of her life that she wouldn’t take a new job unless the new job took Ginger. Having her dog accompany her to work wasn’t enough, however, and before long, Bonnie made the decision to become a veterinarian. Bonnie completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery as well as a residency in internal medicine at the Animal Medical Center on Manhattan’s East Side. Following her residency, she served as the Medical Director of the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center at North Shore Animal League from 1993 to 1999. There she oversaw a staff of 15 doctors and was a member of the senior executive group responsible for the overall direction and mission fulfillment of the NSAL. From 1999 to 2004, Bonnie was a surgeon for the Fund for Animals’ Have-A-Heart Spay and Neuter Clinic. She continued to work in private practice during that time, initially at Animal General. In 2001, she was appointed Chief of Staff at Ansonia Veterinary Center, where she served for five years. Bonnie then started her own practice, Gotham Veterinary Center, which she operated from within City Veterinary Care. During this early incarnation of Gotham, Bonnie provided care to her own patients while designing and building a new home for her practice. She opened the doors of Gotham Veterinary Center on November 11, 2009, welcoming new and continuing clients and their pets. Bonnie is certified in canine rehabilitation through both the University of Tennessee and the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Bonnie opened Canine Rehab of NY in 2014 and lives in Manhattan with her dog Ted and has two wonderful sons, David and Steven.

Dr. Norma Bryant, DVM

Dr. Norma Bryant is a native Texan and spent her childhood in the south Texas town of Weslaco. Dr. Bryant’s passion for animals has been constant throughout her life, having made the decision to pursue veterinary medicine at the tender age of four. She attended Texas A&M University for her undergraduate studies and the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine thereafter, graduating with honors in 2001.

Dr.Bryant worked as an associate at a busy, multi-doctor small animal practice in Houston for several years before opening her own practice in Katy, Texas. She ran a successful companion animal practice for over 14 years before making the move to NYC.

She and her husband, Philip, currently have one cat, but look forward to adopting a dog soon. When not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Bryant enjoys exploring the city, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.

“My primary focus is patient care. I treat each pet the way I would want my own pet cared for, either using my knowledge and experience, or that of my esteemed colleagues in their specialties. I also believe strongly in building trusting relationships with pet owners and working together to provide what’s best for their pet. The patient’s well-being and the comfort their family has with their care are what matter at the end of the day.”

Dr. Nancy Ashley, DVM

Dr. Nancy Ashley hails from America’s heartland, Kansas City, Kansas, and received her B.A. in German Literature with honors from the University of Kansas. Following college she had the pleasure of living in Bonn, Germany for two years, and then returned to the US and joined a German brokerage firm on Wall St. After a number of years in the financial industry, Dr. Ashley realized that her true passion was helping animals, and she resolved to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She did her post-baccalaureate studies at Columbia University, and was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, followed by an Internship at the Animal Medical Center on New York’s Upper East Side. Dr. Ashley trained in veterinary acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.

Dr. Ashley is a whole-food enthusiast, an avid reader and a yoga practitioner, but also loves spending time in the out of doors at her house in the Adirondacks, where she enjoys gardening, hiking, paddling, and snowshoeing in some of the most beautiful scenery in all of New York State. A life-long animal lover, Dr. Ashley is the proud pet parent of a 10-year-old rescued pit bull and a 10-month-old, rescued Maltese mix, along with a variety of fantastic felines. She is thrilled to be a part of Gotham Veterinary Center, where excellent medicine is combined with true compassion for animals and their guardians.
