Veterinarians

Bonnie Brown, VMD, CCRP, CCRT (Founder & Veterinarian)

Melissa Davila, DVM
Dr. Melissa Davila is a proud native New Yorker and 100% Latina at heart. She spent her early childhood in Bolivia, where her love for animals was evident from a young age—befriending every creature she met. At age seven, she returned to the U.S. and became fascinated by the medical books and surgical photos her father kept around the house. This early exposure to medicine, combined with her deep love for animals, set her on the path to veterinary medicine.
Dr. Davila began her journey at SUNY Delhi, earning an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology. Working as a veterinary technician only strengthened her passion for the field, especially after adopting her first cat, Sherlock, whom she bottle-fed and raised. She continued her education at Mercy College, graduating with honors and earning her bachelor’s degree before being accepted into Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.
While at Ross, Dr. Davila was Vice President and Surgical Technician for the Feral Cat Project, dedicating her time to trapping, spaying/neutering, and releasing feral cats to help control their population and ensure their welfare. It was during this work that she met her second feline companion, Castiel. She later completed her clinical year at Lincoln Memorial University, where she found her third (and, for now, final) cat, Diluc.
After earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University, Dr. Davila joined Gotham Veterinary Center, where she trained under our esteemed small animal expert, Dr. Bonnie Brown. Now a fully licensed veterinarian, we are thrilled to welcome her as part of our team, where she will provide compassionate care to all your beloved pets.
Outside of work, Dr. Davila enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons, exploring the latest video games on her PS5, and caring for her beloved grandmother.

Norma Bryant, DVM
Dr. Norma Bryant is a native Texan and spent her childhood in the south Texas town of Weslaco. Dr. Bryant’s passion for animals has been constant throughout her life, having made the decision to pursue veterinary medicine at the tender age of four. She attended Texas A&M University for her undergraduate studies and the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine thereafter, graduating with honors in 2001.
Dr.Bryant worked as an associate at a busy, multi-doctor small animal practice in Houston for several years before opening her own practice in Katy, Texas. She ran a successful companion animal practice for over 14 years before making the move to NYC.
She and her husband, Philip, currently have one cat, but look forward to adopting a dog soon. When not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Bryant enjoys exploring the city, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.
“My primary focus is patient care. I treat each pet the way I would want my own pet cared for, either using my knowledge and experience, or that of my esteemed colleagues in their specialties. I also believe strongly in building trusting relationships with pet owners and working together to provide what’s best for their pet. The patient’s well-being and the comfort their family has with their care are what matter at the end of the day.”

Nuala McDermott, DVM
Dr. Nuala McDermott is thrilled to have joined our team at Gotham Veterinary Center. Growing up in a big Irish family in New Jersey, she spent her summers on her family’s farm in Ireland, surrounded by sheep, cows, working dogs, and barn cats, where her love of animals truly flourished.
Dr. McDermott earned her degree in Animal Science from Cornell University before studying veterinary medicine as part of the charter class at St. George’s University. She completed her clinical studies at Oklahoma State University.
With over 20 years of experience practicing in NYC, Dr. McDermott is a long-time resident of the Upper West Side. In her free time, you can find her strolling through the neighborhood with her beloved Pug, Hank, enjoying all the local community has to offer.

Jane Kosovsky, DVM (Mobile Surgeon: Orthopedic & Advanced Soft Tissue Surgery)
Dr. Jane Kosovsky is an experienced mobile surgeon specializing in orthopedic and advanced soft tissue surgery. She graduated from The Ohio State University Veterinary School and completed her veterinary internship and surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City.
She was inspired by her childhood pets to become a veterinarian. Jane currently has a Belgian Tervuren named, Cedar.

Nancy Ashley, DVM (Acupuncture Services)
Dr. Nancy Ashley hails from America’s heartland, Kansas City, Kansas, and received her B.A. in German Literature with honors from the University of Kansas. Following college she had the pleasure of living in Bonn, Germany for two years, and then returned to the US and joined a German brokerage firm on Wall St. After a number of years in the financial industry, Dr. Ashley realized that her true passion was helping animals, and she resolved to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She did her post-baccalaureate studies at Columbia University, and was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, followed by an Internship at the Animal Medical Center on New York’s Upper East Side. Dr. Ashley trained in veterinary acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
Dr. Ashley is a whole-food enthusiast, an avid reader and a yoga practitioner, but also loves spending time in the out of doors at her house in the Adirondacks, where she enjoys gardening, hiking, paddling, and snowshoeing in some of the most beautiful scenery in all of New York State. A life-long animal lover, Dr. Ashley is the proud pet parent of a 10-year-old rescued pit bull and a 10-month-old, rescued Maltese mix, along with a variety of fantastic felines. She is thrilled to be a part of Gotham Veterinary Center, where excellent medicine is combined with true compassion for animals and their guardians.

In Loving Memory of Ted (Chief Executive Dog)
~ Beloved companion of Dr. Brown ~
On April 8th, 2025, we said goodbye to Ted, who passed peacefully, surrounded by many people who loved him, at nearly 18 years of age. Ted came into Dr. Brown’s life as an adult dog, but from the moment they met, it was clear they were meant to be together.
Over the years, he became her steady companion—offering comfort, loyalty, and unconditional love through every chapter of life. Though their time together didn’t span his whole lifetime, it was filled with a depth of connection that only comes once in a while.
Ted had a calm, soulful presence and a heart that welcomed everyone he met. He will be remembered with so much love and missed beyond measure.
Run free, sweet Ted. You were deeply cherished.

His memory will forever be a part of the home and hearts he filled with so much love.
Rest well, sweet Peanut. You were truly one of a kind.
